My Beauties! How’s it goin’???

Look at our little Chanel Iman, at L.A.M.B. Do it girl. I’ve been busy with school, a few freelance makeup gigs and the chaotic life of a twenty-something. Since I wasn’t backstage to interview the makeup artists, designers, models and the other hundred people there, I’ll put you on to the best places to get the Fashion Week scoop.

I went to NYC today to see what M.A.C. was doing with Fashion Week, and they sure did a lot! There, we got to hear about exactly what was going on backstage, the products used and how they were used. Remember, these looks and trends are being formulated for Spring and Summer of 2008. But who says that you can’t be ahead of the game and rock them early?? To sum it up, skin is the big factor, it should look healthy and glowy. Brows are always naturally groomed, and eyes and lips have a pop of color. I’ll be reporting the specifics very, very soon.

And I can’t get enough of that cat eye, L.A.M.B. definitely stepped the game up with a solid smoky eye and soft lip. Sound familiar???

Hey Beauties,

Hope you are having an excellent Labor Day Weekend! I’m so excited about Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week, which starts this Wednesday the 5th, and ends next Wednesday the 12th. For those of you who don’t normally participate in viewing the festivities, designers showcase their looks for the upcoming Spring and Summer. I’ll be going up to indulge in a few fashion week delicacies. Among my favorites are Y-3, BCBGMazAzria, Twinkle, and Zac Posen. I’ll be posting the hottest trends in fashion (and beauty, of course), so stay tuned!

Kerry Washington did an interview with The Daily, all about her take on fashion. She was named on the 50 most stylish people. Don’t we all just love her??

Even more interesting may be the story on The Worst Runway Falls. Falling in heels is still one of my biggest fears..If I post this, will my karma come back to haunt me? Poor, poor Elise Crombez. The YouTube video above is every model’s (shoot, every woman) fear. Take a look. That little foot show at the end was priceless.

I can’t believe Fall is around the corner. That really upsets me, because any temperature under 75 degrees is just too cold. (And I want to be a New Yorker?!?!) This means that it’s time to pop out the sweaters and the darker colors. The color guidelines apply to hair also!

If you don’t want to spend hundreds of dollars at the salon to get a new look, I have a great option for you! Dark and Lovely by SoftSheen-Carson has created the perfect at home coloring system! Dark and Lovely Fade-Resistant Rich Conditioning Color with Moisture Seal Technology is an awesome way to get the new look you are looking for. Each kit contains After Color Conditioner, Non-Drip Liquid Cream-Gel and simple directions. I’m thinking of trying Brown Sable. I got on the website to view the hair colors, and the site is jam packed with things to do and see! You can download PDF’s that contain seperate looks that you can achieve right at home. While you are there, check out the 20 gorgeous shades and see which suits you best for Fall!

The M.A.C. We’ve Been Waiting For…. August 22, 2007

Oh yes, here it is. Smoke Signals. The collection fully dedicated to the ultra fabulous smoky eye and nude lip. This is a look that isn’t for the faint of heart. It’s a timeless look, so you need these colors!!! I’m actually stressing that you purchase these collections. Here’s the rundown.

The Gentle Fume Eyes (pictured left) includes Rondelle (a matte light silver with white pearl), Carbon ( a matte intense black), Gentle Fume (a velvet cool midtone grey with silver sparkle) and Waft (a matte deep blue grey). The Smoking Eyes (pictured right) quad includes Next to Nothing (a frosty creamy white with pink pearl), Smoking (a velvet black with gold), Showstopper (a matte light muted grey) and Satin Taupe (a frost taupe brown with silvery bronze shimmer). Good Lord, thank you!!! These are EXCELLENT investments, and I promise you that you will run back to these quads time and time again! Even the Ablaze blush is a gorgeous raisin-ish blush, described as a deep dirty coraly rose. Absolutely gorgeous on Caramel and Brown skin. On to the pigments, Smoke Signal pigment is the ultimate sista friendly Fall color. It will be on my eyes, lips and cheeks for sure! It’s so deep and mysterious, to sexy for words.

Let’s get on to the nude lip. Each of these colors is a winner. Every lipstick and every lipglass is wearable for us!!! All you need is the right lip liner (80%, Velvetella, etc.) and you are set to go. Two of the ‘glass (Illicit and Bare Truth) are creamy soft browns, perfect to throw on and go. There is also Bazaarish, the deep burgundy that needs to be in every sista’s handbag. Lastly, pick up a Soft & Slow, the creamy pink that works with virtually any liner.

Next up, there’s Blue Storm. I’ll be buying all of these too. In this collection, there is Blue Storm (a frosty cool royal blue with blue and silver pearl), Stormwatch (a matte deep teal), Thunder (a frosty rich blue with purple pearl), Cumulus (a frosty creamy gray with silver pearl), and Cloudburst (a velvet black with blue pearl). These are colors that have punch and much color definition, so wear them over a creamy base, like a Cream Color Base (which should be placed over a paint, to keep it from creasing). The colors are sure to pop this way!!! Also, the Kohl Power pencils are undeniably the most intense liners to date. All four of them are must haves. The glosses for this collection might be the most unique I have seen in awhile. Lull (pink lilac), Atmospheric (rich grape) and Lightning (whitish silver) are equally as beautiful, and none of them should be left in the counters.

Ladies and Gents, I can’t stress the importance of these two collections. I gasped over and over again as I swatched the colors onto my hand. Do not miss out on these collections! By doubles of the items if you can, I surely intend to. Just think about how many smoky eyes you can get out of these! When they are all sold out and you didn’t get them, don’t say I didn’t warn you!! If you don’t know how to do a smoky eye, ask for ideas! Feel free to e-mail me or leave a comment in the thread, whichever makes you the most comfortable. Also, feel free to ask a makeup artist in the store. After they show you the deal, buy what you want (which will be everything)!!!

Sorry, but this girl’s voice is amazing. It’s so refreshing and old-school at the same time. Between her, Joss Stone and Robin Thicke…they are proving that you don’t have to be Black to sing with soul! Yeah, I know you have all heard “Rehab” a billion times, but just listen to her belt this out a capella!! Couldn’t resist posting this y’all!!!

And when you finish with that one, check out Lil’ Mo impersonating Sasha (better known as Beyonce)!!

Exclusive! Gregory Arlt for MAC August 17, 2007

A few weeks ago I had the chance to have breakfast with GregoryArlt, celebrity Makeup Artist for MAC Cosmetics. He was super sweet and hilarious. He is the friend you need in your life at all times! There were plenty of questions that I had for him, but due to the funky fun chemistry at our breakfast table, I only got a few answers. I was very curious about those products from MAC that people just don’t take advantage of enough. He said that he loves the Gloss Texture because it gives great shine and it is creamy and not sticky. You can add pigments to it or mix with other glosses and over lipstick. He also thinks that we aren’t taking advantage of lipstick, we are becoming a lip gloss culture and it’s always great to go back to basics!

I had to ask him why they won’t bring back our beloved Metal Rock Skinfinish! It has been eating so many of us alive, because it was AMAZING on our skin! He told me that ALL of the Mineralized Skin Finishes are created in a little family run business, and it takes endless hours in a hot oven to create them. Shoot, now I feel selfish and guilty.

Many of us are addicted to certain skinlines and want to be loyal. But the item Gregory says that you must, must, must have is Fix+. (I wish you could see how his face lit up and how excited he got just talking about it.) Before makeup, After makeup, it’s the absolute BEST! He says that it gives makeup bounce, and yes, I agree one billion percent. I use it every day!

Now for the part you all have been waiting for, color recommendations! I asked him to put together a quad that would include great neutrals colors that weren’t boring or typical. For the ladies around NC45, our caramel girls, he suggests All That Glitters or Motif on the lid, Ricepaper to highlight and Browndown to line. For my brown divas, try Arena to highlight, Vex on the lid, Sketch in the crease and Beauty Marked to line the lid. How sexy are those combinations!???! Love it.

As far as blush, since we neglect it so much, I needed more ideas. He suggests Fleur Power and Margin as must haves for my NC45’s and Rule and Orange Eyeshadows for us brown skinned ladies! He tells me that when he does Mary’s makeup, he uses either of the two colors and then uses the smallest bit of Style blush right on the apple of the cheek to highlight.

By the way, did you all get to see the 3D glass?? I love these!! They are creamier than usual, super sparkley and have unique color. My favorite is Algorithm, a medium toned cranberry. It works well with everything, and I have been wearing it constantly! I also love Racy, Boundless, Synched Up and Energy. They even came out with Lipglass Pencils, which are glossy and blend to perfection, so tons of blending isn’t necessary. Why, oh why are these all limited edition??

Fall is On It’s Way… August 13, 2007

What’s up girlies?? I had to share a few more products that I think you might like for fall!!!

Nothing is more exciting or convenient than palettes! Stila came up with three eye and cheek sets that gives you a look in a box. My favorite is Moss Agate, described as “A rich green palette with sumptuous eye shadow shades of sheer champagne (base), a khaki shimmer green(crease) and a dark green shimmer (liner) with a warm coppery brown cheek color. The agate is a vivacious shade of violet to inspire wisdom, strength and motivation.” They even come with a matching colorful Agate!!

Pleasures Delight smells delicious! For the first time, I have found an Estee Lauder scent that doesn’t remind me of my great-grandmother. “This floral confection blends notes of juicy Pomegranate, whipped Strawberry Meringue and tempting Caramel with a sprinkling of Sugared Rose Petals, dewy Freesia, White Peony and Fresh Greens.” How can you resist? I’ve been wearing it all weekend.

Ellin Lavar products are an affordable way to achieve hair satisfaction. First, determine your hair goal, then choose your products. This celebrity stylist has graced the weaves..I mean, heads of Whitney Houston, Oprah and Naomi Campbell, to name a few. I definitely can’t wait to try liquid motion. It’s supposed to bring out those natural curls of ours with this lightweight formula. I’ll see for myself! You can find Ellin Lavar products exclusively at CVS.

If you didn’t get tickets yet, get them NOW. Sasha tore. it. up. The energy that she brought was impeccable. I won’t ruin anything for you, but I will tell you that if I didn’t go, I would have missed the best concert of my life. She has an all girl band, some serious dancers and a routine that will have you rockin’! She gained respect from a lot of haters last night, because they couldn’t neglect the talent that was in front of them on stage. I must say, when it was time for “Ring the Alarm”, we were nervous…but once she successfully made it down the steps, there was a roar of applause!

On a makeup note, she must have been in some serious theater makeup because that stuff didn’t budge. She had buckets of sweat dripping from her forehead, neck, and every other sweat gland of the body, but that warpaint stayed in place! I can bet you that it wasn’t L’Oreal…

I adore Robin Thicke, and he did an excellent job as well. He only had a large backdrop of his album cover, and no props or anything. I guess he has to work his way up to that. He needed a more intimate setting though, not a huge arena. Oh well, I loved him anyway.

So I am telling you right now, make a sacrifice and go see Sasha and Robin Thicke. It was money well spent, and I will always love Bey for her standout performance! Go to the mall (or your closet), pick out your freekum dress and your best Beyonce imitation lace front, and get to the show!!!

Dominican Salons Taking Over?? August 8, 2007

TI was on my AOL homepage today where I saw an article on Dominican Salons. Dominicans basically have hair just like ours. They have perfected the technique, which involves a quick wet set, hotter-than-hell blow dryers, and silky, sexy hair. Even for us with natural hair, those chicas can get your relaxer straight! This is one reason why I use Aveda Damage Remedy, to prepare for all that damage!!!(You would think I have an endorsement with Aveda!)

Check out the Dominican Salon Article at “I Am Not My Hair” on AOL Black Voices.
